I Can Speak Spanish 2 is a small and friendly Spanish language academy with an immersion program in Charlotte, North Carolina. Our curriculum is delivered through a Musical Immersion method. Theme-based songs, visual support, repetition, rhyming, reinforcement of key concepts, flash cards, vocabulary and lots of games are used in our classes. Our program is designed to teach children to become linguistically fluent in Spanish and to expose them to the art and culture of the Spanish-speaking world.
Several studies show that music, and particularly songs, helps second language learners to acquire vocabulary, grammatical structures and idiomatic expressions, improve spelling and pronunciation, build comprehension skills, develop the linguistic skills of reading, writing, speaking and listening, and to expand cultural knowledge (Lems, 2001, p. 1; Little, 1983; Lowe, 1997, p.17; Medina, 2002, p. 1). “Combining language and music also encourages deeper processing of information, dramatically increases reading comprehension and retention, and invigorates the learning process” (McParland, 2000, p. 3).
Maestra Gio is an Early Childhood Education Teacher with more than 32 years of experience working with children from 3 to 5 years old in Early Stimulation and Development Areas. She is highly experienced in preparing children with important preschool skills through a variety of fun activities. In 2012 she started her Spanish Language Academy with an immersion program in Charlotte, North Carolina for children aged 3-12. Originally from Peru, Maestra Gio is a proud mom of one daughter and one son. She loves spending time with her family, and is especially fond of movie nights with her beloved husband. In her spare time she likes to read and go to Burn Boot Camp. Her favorite Bible verse is John 3:16.
Our maestras are native Spanish speakers, hold degrees in the educational field, have many years of experience working with children, are trained in our methodology and have been background checked.
Sandra is from Peru. She has a Bachelor's Degree in K-12 Education, and a Master's Degree in Early Childhood Education from the "University Femenina del Sagrado Corazon" in Lima-Peru. It was her passion to work with children and help them improve their communication skills that inspired her to study and obtain a second professional degree, " Intervention in Language Disorders " -Speech Therapy- in "Centro de Problemas de Audición, Lenguaje y Aprendizaje (CPAL) in Lima, Peru.
In her spare time, Maestra Sandra loves to watch movies. She lives in Charlotte, NC with her two children and husband.
Born in Peru and raised in Charlotte NC, Maestra Nathy graduated in Psychology and Nutrition from Appalachian State University, Boone, NC. During her last semester in college she had the wonderful opportunity to study abroad in Costa Rica, where she enjoyed visiting exotic places and learning a new culture during her spare time. Maestra Nathy worked as a Spanish teacher assistant during her high school years. She is very passionate about teaching Spanish and we are so glad to have her back.
She lives in Charlotte, NC with her fur baby named Frankie.
Maestra Cathy is from New York. She has been teaching Spanish in Charlotte for 22 years and has taught every level from K-12. She has a BA in Spanish from the State University of New York at Oswego and resided in Madrid for a year.
Cathy currently works part-time at Covenant Day Middle School in Matthews, NC. She lives in Charlotte, NC with her husband.
Maestra Gesin is from Florida where she has been teaching K-12 for a combination of 25 years. She received her Masters degree in teaching and learning from Nova Southeastern University in Florida. Maestra Gesin works at Covenant Day School and calls Charlotte her home since 2018 where she lives with her husband and their dog.
